Send It In

Have you found any blog spam specimens? Send them to gfrench at gmail dot com.

I'm not here to knock these guys, just to catalog the machinations of link builders because I think they're kinda nifty from a sorta academic perspective.

Two Spammy Blog Sites I Found

Here are the two I found, with brief comments.

http://diabetesaide.blogspot.com/

This blogger has been spamming since thursday the 18th, 2004.

The titles change but the copy remains the same.

http://ukbaldness.blogspot.com/

This one seems not to be spammy at first glance... I still kind of think it is though the owner may disagree. The posts seem to be either article paragraphs broken out of the article and posted with keyword text in the titles with some marketing copy thrown in there for good measure.

This is much better work than the first, though it's obviously done to increase links to the author's site with wack content.

I'm not sure where they're getting their keywords from, but one of the posts is entitled "Islamic Solution Baldness." What the freak is that? The link goes to their ukbaldness site.

SEO Blogging Spam

This microsite is a catalog of instances of Blogging Spam I've discovered. By this I mean sites I came upon through clicking the "next blog" link at the top of random blogs.

It's spam because these blogs are intended to increase the number of links each of the "bloggers" has to his website, thus duping google into thinking their site is more popular/relevant to certain search terms.

I think these posts are likely done with some kind of application as in the case of one of these sites the posts were done hourly.

As a practice I think this is a pretty risky.

This is not an indictment of this particular practice, merely a catalog, because I find these spam sites interesting for some reason.
